Jitendra has completed Master’s Degree in Rural Development (1997) from University College Dublin (UCD). He also completed Master’s Degree in Agriculture (1990) and Development Planning (1993) from India. He further completed Certificate courses in Sustainable Agriculture from Wageningen University (2005); and Business and Impact Planning for Social Enterprises from MIT (2020). Jitendra has been incubated by UnLtd India (2014-2019); Miller Center, USA (2015-2019); Acumen Academy (2021) and by Govt of India (RKVY/RAFTAAR, 2020) as social entrepreneur. After completing his study at UCD in 1997, Jitendra worked with bilateral and multilateral development agencies in 20 countries worldwide. After working at international level, Jitendra returned to India and co-founded SAI Sustainable Agro (www.sai-agro.org) as social enterprise in 2013 in India, and SAI-Social Purpose Corporation (SAI-SPC) in USA in 2019. Jitendra took sabbatical from International Chief Technical Advisor position in 2014 to design, pilot, validate and scale-up unique agroforestry model. He co-founded SAI Sustainable Agro to work with small & marginal farmers on climate resilient agroforestry model in their degraded land as social enterprise. The agroforestry model is recognized by Indian Government (NITI Aayog/Planning Commission), and SEED Uno, Germany, an international donor platform, as a proven business model. It has also received best Start-up Award from Indian Trade Association (FICCI), and winner of BRICS Solution Award 2021 for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). SAI has been identified as top 13 innovators by World Economic Forum (WEF) which are contributing to the achievement of India government’s commitment to UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). The model is being replicated across India and Africa. Jitendra is visiting faculty at Welingkar Institute of Management (https://www.welingkar.org/). He is also nominated by Irish Embassy in India as key member of Irish Affinity Diaspora.
