Soustain Chigalu

Soustain Chigalu is a seasoned renewable energy professional and qualified electrical engineer with over 20 years of experience. He served as President of the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA) from 2021 to 2024. He is the Co-founder and Operations Director of INFLO LTD, where he leads the design and implementation of renewable energy projects in Malawi. Soustain Chigalu is doctoral researcher at the University of Loughborough in England, United Kingdom (UK). His research is focused on green hydrogen technologies for the Sub Sahara Africa countries. Currently he is a technical lead for the Modular Energy Storage with Clean Hydrogen (MESCH) project being implemented in Malawi to install a solar microgrid and battery electrolyser system to produce clean electricity and green hydrogen gas for cooking at rural hospital using. Soustain Chigalu has worked as a consultant for the World Bank and COMESA advising the Malawi Government on quality assurance for off-grid solar products contributing to improved electricity access in Malawi especially for the rural population. His expertise covers renewable energy technologies, developing sustainable business models, policy advocacy, technical project development, and social impacts such as climate justice and inclusive energy access. He actively fosters partnerships between government, private sector, academia, and NGOs to promote sustainable energy solutions and policy frameworks within Malawi and across sub-Saharan Africa.
